Pooja Hegde participated in the Miss India Talented ceremony in 2009 and won the title. In the same year, she took part in the Miss India competition where she was eliminated in the very first rounds. Then, she took part in the Miss Universe pageant and got 2nd position.
In 2012, Pooja Hegde made her debut role alongside Jiiva in the Tamil film industry with Mysskin’s film, “Mugamoodi”. She was chosen for the role after her appearances in beauty pageants. Pooja wrote all dialogues in English to memorize and understand them. Her mother tongue is Tulu, which is somewhat similar to Tamil. The film did incredibly well during the premiere. However, it failed to satisfy critics and the film flopped at the box office.
Two years later, she appeared in “Oka Laila Kosam” alongside Naga Chaitanya. This romantic comedy film did well at the box office, and Hegde’s performance received critical acclaim. Pooja was also nominated for Best Actress at the Southern Filmfare Awards.
Pooja got her first Hindi project in Ashutosh Gowariker’s film, “Mohenjo Daro”, alongside Hrithik Roshan. She was called to audition after Gowariker’s wife saw her in the television commercial. Pooja’s Instagram account was hacked on May 27. She broke the news via Twitter and asked her fans not to give out any personal information when asked via her Instagram. While her team was able to get her account back, it was too late as the hacker had done the damage. On Pooja’s Instagram story, a post was made with Samantha with the caption “I don’t think she’s pretty at all”. She deleted the post as soon as her account was recovered. However, fans asked her to apologize to Samantha for the post.
